SOUNDBITE: (English) President Donald Trump: "We're having very good talks. There's a chance that something very exciting could happen. This is a deal that would be signed by me. I've been in touch with Congress. I've been telling many of the people in Congress exactly where we are." ++SOTS SEPARATED BY WHITE FLASH++2. SOUNDBITE: (English) President Donald Trump: "Their (Chinese delegation) trip is being extended as Steve (Mnuchin) said, their trip is being extended by two days, unexpectedly, because they are making great progress so they'll be here for an extra couple of days." 3. Various of meeting and reporter asking question 5. SOUNDBITE: (English) President Donald Trump: "We have a one time shot at making a great deal for both countries and so we are going to give it so it depends on where we are. If we're doing well, if we're doing very well on the negotiation, I could see extending that and I don't think it would have to be a long-term extension because I would imagine that if it took Steve another month or so or less. (UPSOUND: Steve Mnuchin, US Treasury Secretary: 'I think our expectation is to conclude this quickly and if we get to the point over the next few days of making progress, recommending a meeting for you with President Xi in March.') Well, dependent on how they do over the next few days, I would certainly consider that." STORYLINE: President Donald Trump says he will consider delaying a March 1 deadline to reach a trade deal before he would escalate his tariffs on $200 billion in Chinese imports. Trump told reporters that he would "certainly consider" an extension if trade talks are going well. He said that talks between China and the United States will be extended by two days to give the countries more time to resolve their trade dispute. The two economic powers are engaged in a standoff that has worried financial markets and likely weakened the global economy. A Chinese team led by Vice Premier Liu He has been meeting with U.S. Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer and other American officials. The U.S. has imposed 25 percent tariffs on $50 billion in Chinese imports and 10 percent tariffs on $200 billion worth; the tariffs on the $200 billion are scheduled to rise to 25 percent if there's no deal. =========================================================== Clients are reminded: (i) to check the terms of their licence agreements for use of content outside news programming and that further advice and assistance can be obtained from the AP Archive on: Tel +44 (0) 20 7482 7482 Email: info@aparchive.com(ii) they should check with the applicable collecting society in their Territory regarding the clearance of any sound recording or performance included within the AP Television News service (iii) they have editorial responsibility for the use of all and any content included within the AP Television News service and for libel, privacy, compliance and third party rights applicable to their Territory.
