SOUNDBITE (English) Jeanne Seckinger, CFO of Parker Law Group:  WATERS: "And you called it, quote, 'Fake Forge.' Why do you call it, 'Fake Forge?"SECKINGER: "Because there is a real Forge consulting. But this was a fake company that he set up to mimic and look like and designed to look like Forge."WATERS: "The real Forge, who's the main guy at the real Forge?SECKINGER: "Michael Gunn."WATERS: "And does this account right here in Alex Murdaugh's name have anything to do with the real Forge?"SECKINGER: "Absolutely none."STORYLINE:Jurors at Alex Murdaugh's double murder trial in South Carolina heard testimony from Jeanne Seckinger, the office manager and chief financial officer of the law firm Murdaugh's family founded more than a century ago.Murdaugh took money from legal settlements that were supposed to go to clients by routing it to a fake company that he created and that had a similar name to the company the law firm had intended to send it to, Seckinger said. The real company would have then dispensed the money to the firm's clients. The companies' similar names helped Murdaugh avoid detection, she testified.Seckinger said she confronted Murdaugh about almost $800,000 in missing law firm fees on the day of the killings. But during the conversation, Murdaugh found out doctors had told his father he would die within days. Murdaugh, 54, is standing trial in the shootings of his 52-year-old wife, Maggie, and 22-year-old son, Paul, on June 7, 2021, at their Colleton County home. He faces 30 years to life in prison if convicted of murder.===========================================================Clients are reminded: (i) to check the terms of their licence agreements for use of content outside news programming and that further advice and assistance can be obtained from the AP Archive on: Tel +44 (0) 20 7482 7482 Email: info@aparchive.com(ii) they should check with the applicable collecting society in their Territory regarding the clearance of any sound recording or performance included within the AP Television News service (iii) they have editorial responsibility for the use of all and any content included within the AP Television News service and for libel, privacy, compliance and third party rights applicable to their Territory.
