SOUNDBITE (English) Mark Morgan, U.S. Customs and Border Protection Acting Commissioner:"Despite the dangers posed by COVID 19 illegal immigration, it continues -- putting American lives at risk. Migrants continue to ignore their countries stay at home guidance as well as they continue to ignore the guidance of global medical experts. American citizens have made tremendous sacrifices as we fight the spread of this disease and fight to strengthen our economy. As the U.S. continues to take on the challenges posed by COVID 19, we must secure our border from illegal aliens who show their complete disregard of even the most basic application of health and safety precautions which have become our new norm against COVID 19."++SOUNDBITES SEPARATED BY WHITE FLASH++2 . In my opinion, as acting commissioner, there is no doubt that Title 42 has prevented more tragic loss among our own workforce."++SOUNDBITES SEPARATED BY WHITE FLASH++3  . SOUNDBITE (English) Mark Morgan, U.S. Customs and Border Protection Acting Commissioner:"What we're trying to do, the best we can is remove all individuals, regardless of whether they're children -- minors or they're adult were trying to remove them as fast as we can to not put them in our congregant settings, to not put them into our system, to not have them remain in the United States for a long period of time." STORYLINE:Acting Commissioner of U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Mark Morgan described efforts of the agency's task during the coronavirus pandemic saying, "illegal immigration, it continues -- putting American lives at risk." "We must secure our borders from illegal aliens who show their complete disregard of even the most basic application of health and safety precautions," he said.In a press conference in Washington Thursday, Morgan told reporters CBP's enforcement action toward illegal aliens during the COVID-19 crisis is "to remove them as fast as we can" regardless of whether they're children or adult.More than 2,000 unaccompanied children have been expelled since March under an emergency declaration enacted by the Trump administration, which has cited the coronavirus in refusing to provide them protections under federal anti-trafficking and asylum laws.Lawyers and advocates have sharply criticized the administration for using the global pandemic as a pretext to deport children to places of danger. Morgan said that expulsions conducted under a section of U.S. public health law known as Title 42 were necessary to protect his agents. Morgan said 10 CBP employees have died after contracting COVID-19."There's no doubt that Title 42 has prevented more tragic loss among our own workforce," he said.In court, meanwhile, the Trump administration has argued children it is seeking to expel are not entitled to protections under the Flores settlement, a 2-decade-old court agreement that sets standards for the detention of immigrant children. ===========================================================Clients are reminded: (i) to check the terms of their licence agreements for use of content outside news programming and that further advice and assistance can be obtained from the AP Archive on: Tel +44 (0) 20 7482 7482 Email: info@aparchive.com(ii) they should check with the applicable collecting society in their Territory regarding the clearance of any sound recording or performance included within the AP Television News service (iii) they have editorial responsibility for the use of all and any content included within the AP Television News service and for libel, privacy, compliance and third party rights applicable to their Territory.
